Fast Track – Skipper Certification Sessions

Fast Track Skipper Certification Sessions

Get an early start on the season. We’ll help you get ready to be certified at the beginning of the season. We have designed a fast track skipper certification session at ONE°15 Brooklyn Sail Club. This is a one day session that goes over the specific boat equipment, rigging and derigging procedures, engine starting, docking and motoring practice, sail settings, practice sailing and COB techniques. Our coaches will be there to help candidates review the Club protocols, local knowledge and facilitate practice drills to dust off those winter skills before the skipper’s test at the end of the session.

Objective:  Boat check out, practice (motoring, sailing techniques, COB techniques) and skipper certification testing all in a one day session

Ideal Candidates: Open to Sail Club members that would like skipper certification immediately and to prospective members who have skipper experience elsewhere (subject to approval).

Prerequisites: Accepted by the Director of Sailing Operations. Completed the ONE°15 Brooklyn Sail Club – Learn-to-Skipper Module 1 in the last 18 months, skippers of other NY Harbor sailing clubs, previous ownership or skipper experience of similar boats (J80, Melges 24, J-24).

Course Content:

  1. Boat check out: Boat specific check out (J80 or Melges)
  2. How the boat is rigged and derigged? – Equipment location
