The weather forecast was indicating potential rain but it missed us.
Our boat discussed the following
Counter currents – Hudson River – ebbing and Buttermilk channel flooding. We could see definitive current rips/lines in the water.
Weather helm, lee helm. Balancing the helm pressure via crew weight placement, and mainsail controls. Imaging the boat is pivoting around a post directly through the keel. Trimming in the mainsheet will pivot the boat windward, easing the main sheet will make the pivot away from the wind. Target a little pressure on the helm when going upwind. Off the wind, it will be harder to do but in general the helm should be balanced.
Cross sheeting. Jib trimmers need to work as team with the crew, someone has to clear lines and transfer the winch handle between tacks. Check out the video below.
