Just a friendly nudge. This a great event to see, especially against the background of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Great event organization, awesome to time to catch up with the sailing community and introduce new folks to the sailing excitement. Support your favorite sailor, team or country.

The event is June 7th and June 8th

We’ve been generously given a discount code: S5OBM15. Get your tickets now!

See you there.

Bluesky

Previously we used twitter to broadcast weather updates to the membership. We are now testing the bluesky app and will eventually connect it to the member portal (when more technical support is available)

Housekeeping

We are off to a great start of the season. Just a few reminders

Check in

  • Skippers - Float plans, repair binder and incident report binders - at guard house at bottom of ramp
  • Crew - office key on #28 tag (metal tag - "Gentleman")

Departure

  • J/80 - Do not store anything in the sheet bags - except sheets. These bags cost $50 each and should not be damaged
  • Make sure engine has cooling water streaming out. Shut off engine immediately if no water is indicated
  • Please call out on VHF ch 71 prior to casting off on the dock
  • The marina is called "Brooklyn Bridge Marina"
  • Sound signal when departing marina

Returning to dock

  • Please call out on VHF ch 71 before entering the marina. If no response - issue a securite call and enter cautiously. Over the weekend we had a vessel backing down the fairway without calling for clearance.
  • The marina is called "Brooklyn Bridge Marina"
  • Boats should glide into the slip and the spring line should be used to gentle step the boat's forward motion.
  • Position the bow - one tile away from the main dock.

Derigging the boats

  • Tie up the boat as tight a possible. Boat should move in unison with finger.
  • J/80 - loop spring line around base of winch - no hitch that might torque or rotate the winch drum
  • J/80 - bow lines go through the gap between the forestay and forward post of the bow pulpit
  • Keep all backstays slack
  • Melges 24 - wrap main halyard around support post (not around halyards) and secure with main halyard fine tune hook.
  • J/80 battle flag is secure the forward part of the bow pulpit and clear of the forestay triangle.
  • Hose down deck, fittings, tracks and lower unit of engine to rinse off all salt water.
  • Report any repairs in the repair binder.

Thank you for your co-operation

Reminder - Race Crew Available

Hi folks

Just a reminder - if you are available to race - please make a reservation for FC crew on Wed or Thursday evening on the reservation site.  We use this list to staff teams that request additional crew. We also pull from this list for the Wednesday Race Crew Development Program. If you have found a ride or are no longer available - please update your status on the reservation site.

Dock call is around 5:25 pm to 5:40 pm. Thanks.

After Sailing Debriefs

Part of the Sail Club's mission is to help our members develop skills by sharing our learning experiences at the end of each sail. For those inclined, we highly encourage taking keeping notes in a note book that can be reviewed at a later date.

After each sail, we encourage crew and skippers to go around and ask the crew - "What did you learn today?" and "What did the crew do well?"

We are tracking some of these debriefs on a separate page -  Debriefs

Sail Better, Sail Brooklyn!

Call for FC Skippers

Need some FC skippers for Friday May 9th evening and Saturday May 10th afternoon. Weather permitting of course. Thank you.
