Racing on Saturdays!
Fun times with a little racing, practice, education and lots of socializing. We have three programs (i) Fleet Captain Racing, (ii) Regular Regattas and (iii) Fun Regattas
Fleet Captain Racing: The concept is simple. It works just like Fleet Captain cruising. It’s all about fun, learning a bit more about sailing, some sailing drills and some casual racing. The program encourages sailors of any skill level to join. This is a pick up racing format. Skippers and coaches volunteer their time to take crews around the race course or perform sailing drills. When you sign up as crew, everyone will be allocated to the boats to even out all skills levels on the boats.
Depending on the crew composition and weather conditions, there will be opportunities to rotate positions. Cruisers use this opportunity to hone their skills, while experienced sailors eagerly share their knowledge with others. Afterwards, we always socialize and debrief.
How it works.
Step 1: Skippers: Sign up on the reservation system under the Fleet Captain Skipper tab for the afternoon. Crew: Sign up on the reservation system under the Fleet Captain time slot.
Step 2: As we confirm our skippers, the system will confirm crew for the session. Ignore the system’s allocation of boats and crew and just come on down to the docks about 30 minutes before the time slot.
Step 3: We will allocate crews and skippers at the docks on the day of the race to even out all the skill levels. Some days we will doing drills and some shorter course racing to get everyone involved. There is a briefing and debriefing before and after the race.
Step 4: Remember to bring beverages and/or snacks for the volunteer race skippers!
No charge for Fleet Captain Racing Skipper, crew charge is $25 per person (temporarily waived).
Regular Racing: Some Saturdays will have regular racing to the scheduled for 2018:
- Saturday, June 16th
- Saturday, August 4th
- Saturday, September 15th
- Sunday, October 7th
On these days, regular racing teams are formed with skippers selecting their own crew (or the other way around!) – preregistration by the skipper is required. If there are skippers looking for crew, there is an ample room to form Fleet Captain racing teams. Racing is more formal with a race committee. There is a nominal per person fee for regular racing.
Fun Regattas: We are also organizing three fun regattas:
- Navigators Regatta. A race around government buoys. Saturday, June 9th
- Double Handed Regatta. Two sailors on board. Saturday, August 18th
- Women’s Regatta. Saturday, September 8th

If it’s a Saturday, chances are there will be some sort of race.
